Students will be taught with a  hands-on, multidisciplinary approach which enables students in small groups to experience how the tools of exploration such as the magnetic compass, and charts, are used.

Life on the Barbary Coast


Students explore maritime history by becoming “sailors” themselves; as they learn the language of the sea, the skills needed to row and maneuver a one-ton longboat, or the confidence and teamwork to raise each other off the deck in a Bosun’s chair, they become a part of this history.

The Gold Rush


Fourth, fifth and sixth grade students embark on an imaginary voyage on Hyde Street Pier. On the pier the students are immersed in an environmental living program which expands on their advance research and invites them to explore the rugged era of the Gold Rush from a maritime perspective.
