Gold Rush
Overview
It’s the Gold Rush and people are flooding to San Francisco, abandoning entire ships in the harbor and rushing to the hills to strike it rich! Students will meet and work with a Gold Miner with a bad case of gold fever, with the Captain of the Balclutha who can offer steady work aboard the ship, and with an aspiring Merchant who is poised to get rich in this Boomtown!
Time: 10:00am to 2:00pm
Details: During this day of hands-on experience, the young prospectors come to understand that the California Gold Rush was a bit more complex than they expected and that their fortunes may not be made in the hills – and in fact, may not be made at all. They also learn to appreciate the far reaching effects the Gold Rush had on Bay Area history.
